Year 6 are taught by Mrs G. Claxton and Mrs G. Day

Welcome to Class 6!

We are a vibrant class of 29 amazing pupils: kind, ambitious, and always ready to grow. As a team, we support each other and strive to be the best we can be.
You'll find us in our classroom (and often learning outdoors!), always ready to take on new challenges, act responsibly, and make the most of every learning opportunity.

Who helps us to learn?

I am Mrs Claxton, the Year 6 teacher at The Mosley Academy.  Here is some information about me.

Year 6 is my absolute favourite year group to teach! It is such a special time as the children approach the end of their primary school journey and prepare for the transition to high school. It is incredibly rewarding to support the children as they grow in confidence and independence, and to help ensure they feel ready for the next stage of their education.

I am Mosley's English and Pupil Premium champion - both areas I am deeply passionate about. In addition, I work one day a week for the JTMAT Trust as English Secondee, delivering training and visiting other primary schools to support teaching and learning in English.

Outside of school, I’m a mum to two children and my lovely dog, Nell. I enjoy spending time outdoors with family and friends.  My absolute happy place is by the sea! I love getting lost in a good book, listening to music and podcasts, and relaxing with my favourite treats - pizza and chocolate are definitely at the top of the list!

"I am Mrs Day and I love my time in Year 6 as I get to work with the most enthusiastic group of children who are always curious about our learning! My favourite part of teaching is helping children to understand tricky ideas and seeing how proud they are when they've been the best that they can be! Year 6 also know that I love a sing song in class!"

Class Information:

  • Arrival time is between 8:40am and 8:50am. Collection time is 3:30pm
  • PE: In year 6, P.E. lessons take place on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Please send children in wearing the correct kit with hair tied back and all jewellery removed.
  • Reading: Reading books need to be in school everyday and taken home daily.  Children are able to choose a book from our class library, the school library or from home.  Please make time to read everyday and record in your reading diary.
  • Spellings: In year 6, spellings are shared weekly and set on Spelling Shed for you to practise at home.  Please practise your spellings at least three times a week, either in your spelling book or on Spelling Shed.
  • Times Tables:  Being able to rapidly recall our multiplication times tables and the corresponding division facts supports us in many areas of mathematics.  Please continue to practise using TT Rockstars at least three times a week.
  • Homework: During the autumn term, homework continues to be reading, spelling and times tables.  From January, the class will be set English and maths homework linked to our learning in school.
