Achievements and Performance

The Academy was delighted to be awarded “Outstanding” following an Ofsted inspection in May 2014 and is striving to continuously improve and so retain outstanding status.

Under the new curriculum and testing arrangements the children at Key Stage 2 (Year 6) did very well in 2018, with reading at 88%, writing 94%, SPAG at 100% and maths at 100% all for the ‘expected level’.  The children in Year 6 also did brilliantly at the ‘greater depth’ standard, with 53% in reading, 41% in writing, 47% in maths and 53% in SPAG.  Amazing results!

The percentages of children achieving the nationally expected level at Key Stage 1 was 80% in reading, 75% in writing, 75% in maths, and at the ‘greater depth’ standard was, 33% in reading, 41% in writing and 26% in maths.

Our Year 1 phonics data increased from 57% in 2016 to 92% in 2018.  A fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work of the staff.

Monitoring of data, assessment, pupil’s work and teaching shows that many pupils are making above expected progress. This is leading to standards of achievement, which are above the national averages expected for each age group in both Key Stage 1 and 2.

Throughout the year children and parents enjoyed a wide range of events hosted by the school including Friday family assemblies (introduced September 2015), Parent Consultations, Harvest Celebrations, Christmas Fayre, a Nativity Play, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day lunches, Theatre visit, Christmas crafts afternoon, workshops, exhibitions of homework projects, Summer Gala and Sports Day and finally the school production of ‘Beauty and the Mini-Beasts'.

The challenges of a new curriculum and the removal of ‘levelling’ as a form of assessment are well established by the school staff who are committed to providing an outstanding education for all pupils.  The staff use assessment grids for reading, writing and maths and utilise the ‘PUMA’ and ‘PIRA’ series of tests to inform teaching and learning.
