Year 5 are taught by Miss Luce
Welcome to Class 5!
We are a class of 32 unique, fun-loving pupils that enjoy learning at Mosley!
Who helps us to learn?
Hello, I'm Miss Luce and I am delighted to be teaching Year 5.
I am passionate about making learning exciting, engaging and memorable for every child. One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is learning alongside the children and seeing those wonderful "lightbulb moments" when new ideas suddenly click into place.
As the school's Computing Subject Leader, I love helping children develop their digital skills and creativity through technology. I also have a real enthusiasm for Maths and enjoy helping children build confidence and curiosity in their mathematical thinking.
Outside of school, I love spending time outdoors, enjoying adventures with friends and family, and making special memories with my daughter. I also enjoy hearing the children's ideas and recommendations for activities—some of the best suggestions come from them!
I am looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, discovery and fun with Year 5.
Miss Smith helps class 5 with their learning every morning each week. Miss Smith is a new TA to our school and she is full of enthusiasm and optimism for the fantastic year ahead.
Exciting things in Year 5!
Year 5 is a truly special year filled with exciting experiences, memorable moments and opportunities to grow together as a class.
One of the highlights of the year is our magical residential trip to Whitemoor Lakes, which takes place as we approach Christmas. Wrapped up warm and surrounded by festive excitement, children build independence and resilience through outdoor challenges, activities and shared experiences. It’s a time where confidence blossoms and friendships strengthen – the wintry atmosphere makes it feel even more special and unforgettable.
We also step back in time with our visit to the Black Country Living Museum, where learning comes to life. Pupils explore historic streets, experience what life was like in the past and make meaningful links to their history learning in a hands-on, engaging way.
Back in school, our learning is just as exciting. In Design and Technology, children take part in a much-loved practical project – making their own spaghetti bolognese. They learn key cooking skills, food preparation and hygiene, and enjoy the reward of creating something delicious from scratch!
In Art, creativity shines through our work on weaving, where children experiment with texture, pattern and colour to produce their own unique pieces. It’s a wonderful unit that encourages patience, focus and artistic expression.
Above all, Year 5 is about togetherness. We work as a team, celebrate each other’s achievements and support one another through challenges. It’s a year where friendships grow, confidence builds and every child has the opportunity to shine.
Information about our Class:
-
PE takes place on Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure children come to school wearing their kit on these days.
-
We strongly encourage children to read regularly at home. Reads can be recorded in the reading diary by children themselves, but this must be signed by an adult to confirm please. Your child can earn lots of reading badges for reading at home - and of course this will help them be a fabulous reader across the curriculum too!
-
'At home' reads are counted up on a Thursday.
-
Spellings are tested on Friday. Once tested, new spellings are given out ready to be tested the following Friday.
-
Homework has now moved to online, with Times Table Rockstars, Spellingshed and reading to be done throughout each week.
-
Times tables are tested every Thursday. We use 'Times Table Rock Stars' at home and at school to develop our speed with times and divide questions!
-
Please arrive at school between 8:40am and 8:50am. Collection time for upper Key Stage Two children is 3:30pm.
